Derek P. Collins
Product Designer & Developer

/About

Hi there, I’m Derek. I’m a Product Designer currently working at Netflix. I’m passionate about discovering, understanding, and solving problems.

I’ve been working professionally as a developer and designer since 2006. Prior to Netflix I worked at a small startup called KISSmetrics and before that I worked as a full-stack developer and designer for the City of Prescott in Arizona.

I currently reside in Cleveland, Ohio with my wife and two sons, but I was born and raised in Port Clinton, Ohio. I’ve also lived in Prescott1, San Francisco2, Tokyo3, and Mumbai4.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family, working on our home, traveling to far and distant places (I’ve been to 35 countries and counting), building Lego, and Cleveland sports (I’m a lifelong fan of the Cleveland Browns).

This site is built using Astro — a free, open-source, static site generator — and served by Vercel. It was crafted with plain ol’ HTML, CSS, and JavaScript on a 2022 Apple MacBook Air with a M2 chip and 24 GB of memory in Midnight using Nova from Panic.

I’m using Barlow from Google Fonts and icons from FontAwesome.

Footnotes

  1. I’ve lived in Prescott, Arizona on two different occasions. I initially moved there to attend Prescott College. I left after I graduated, but eventually moved back a couple of years later to continue working with the City of Prescott.

  2. I lived in San Francisco for nearly a decade before returning to Ohio. I’ve lived in the Tendernob, Mission Bay, and SOMA neighborhoods.

  3. I lived in Tokyo for two months and it is one of my favorite cities in the entire world! I lived in the Akasaka district within Minato ward in Tokyo prefecture.

  4. I lived in Mumbai for two months, but I’ve visited several times. I specifically lived in Bandra West, which is considered the “posh” part of Mumbai.
